Charm and character with a dollop of kindness. Quite perfect.

The most charming, friendly, personal, quirky and thoughtful place I have ever stayed.
Gardens are beautiful- huge attention to detail, and not a whiff of the corporate hotel that can be so dry and boring. Even the 'do not disturb' labels for the room doors are handwritten- such joy! And the paintings are wonderful (I usually HATE the art on hotel walls).
The pool was delightful (complete with wistful ducks staring at you through the glass windows), the showers powerful, the breakfasts divine. I came without my kids but they would have loved the pool, the ping pong and the pool table.
I loved the character of the place and am nervous to hear they are about to have a big refurbishment.
However the gloriously friendly, knowledgeable and engaged staff promised that not much will change...
The photos in no way do it justice.

Magical trip with kids!

Just returned from 3 dreamy nights at Woolley Grange. What a special trip with lots of magical memories made! ✨ The small touches at this place go a long way - personalised table name cards, free range ducks and chicken roaming around the place and fresh cut flowers dotted around the hotel - picked straight from their gorgeous gardens. Every single member of staff is a pleasure to chat to, and so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The kids enjoyed getting to know everyone and calling them their 'friends' From Daniel and Lisa on reception to Dave and Ollie in the garden, and the ladies in the the Den - they're all SO patient and great with kids. Such excellent customer service. Three of our top magical moments - 1) tying wish ribbons to the wishing tree, and running back inside before it got too dark so we didn't accidently see the fairies - Lisa kindly fielding the girls' 1000 questions about fairies and receiving the sweetest note outside the door the next morning! ‍♀️ 2) homemade cookies (sometimes still warm) and milk in the evening watching a film, what an absolute TREAT! 3) picking flowers with a very patient Molly in the walled garden to take a souvenir bouquet home for their great nanny - supermarket flowers will never make the cut again We can't wait to come back again sometime, please?

Disappointing experience again

We went yesterday 5 of us for lunch . They don’t do lunch my Daughter booked what she thought would be a lunch meal .only kids menu and light bites. We were sat in a conservatory with lots of noisy kids and were going to walk out . My Daughter asked the waiter and they agreed to let us have a table before afternoon tea. We will never go there again whole place is geared to kids and dogs it was my birthday . The previous visit with my Son who was Glamping there for 5 days was equally bad and meal sat at same table my Grandson asked what he should do , his potted shrimps were frozen solid and my Son was paying corkage on a very expensive wine and when he asked for decanter to let wine breathe was given two small ones . Non of us will go there again I remember it from years ago when you could have a pleasant meal . I don’t hate small kids or dogs but don’t want to eat in a place geared to them.

Disappointing especially for the money

The hotel was in need of a facelift, it was tired in a lot of places and we felt given this, it was very overpriced. We didn’t know about the refurbishment when we booked so I see now that is going to happen and will hopefully improve things but it obviously didn’t help our stay. This should have been made clear on the website (which it now is but I don’t know when this was added). We had to change our room as it was up extremely steep stairs (with no handrail on the top section) which we feel were unsafe for our 18 month old son. The room was also very cold. Our new room was extremely hot (without any radiators on) and was hard to cool down so we slept poorly. We were told there wasn’t anything that could be done about the temperature of either room as it was down to radiators and it being an old house.
The outside facilities for children were very worn and used (the outside huts) which were disappointing.
The pool area was looking run down and was cold, our son’s lips went blue in the pool! We did report this to reception but were told others hadn’t complained.
My massage was very poor. The therapist had freezing cold hands, never asked if the pressure was ok and I had to ask several times for it to be firmer as it was more like being stroked! Really disappointing. I was not asked if the massage was ok at the end either (and it was about 10 mins short too).
The food choice was pretty limited, the soup, pie and fish of the day were basically the same the 4 nights we were there and no new dishes added. The food was average in taste and fairly expensive. There was only one larger on offer until the last day we were there when they finally got an additional choice in. They had run out of rose wine too. We had to wait a long time to order a drink in the evenings and staff were hard to find.
Overall we were very disappointed in our stay and felt a lot more could have been done to improve things, instead it felt like the hotel and staff were just counting down to the refurb!

This was a great place to stay for the night. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff and a great setting. The building is very quirky with loads of character and a really homely feel. The food in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was great, good choice and all tasted fresh. Used the pool and spa area which wasn't huge but very well kept and good facilities. Really reasonable room rate with breakfast included. The grounds looked like it had some nice garden areas but didn't I get chance to look round it all. Overall, couldn't fault it and would definitely stay there again next time I'm in the area.
