Wonderful hotel, but buyer beware!!
My husband and I live near this hotel. We needed a vacation away from home, so I searched for the perfect hotel that would tick all the boxes. We wanted a king bed, so he wouldn't have to deal with me stealing the sheets, a suite, so we could have more space (we enjoy working on puzzles for fun) and, for me, windows. A view is always my number one. I once chose a house based on the large windows that let the sunlight in. We booked the stay for five nights and we couldn't wait. Upon check--in, my hopes were dashed when I entered a room more suited for my submariner husband than myself. Out window looked out on a concrete wall and a sign that said, "Pool Supplies". By coming near the window and craning your neck, I realized that our window was 10 feet away from a group of tables on the pool deck. My heart sunk. I thought that this was some kind of cruel trick. Our "quiet" getaway vanished. I went to the front desk and asked if we could be moved, but there were no more king suites. We were offered a queen suite, which, in retrospect, I should have accepted. I tried to put on a happy face for my husband, but inside I was angry that our privacy was destroyed by kids running up to our window to peer in, followed by their parents who came to get them. We got to know the pool man who appeared promptly every morning (not that he peered in, just that he walked by). The worst part was Saturday, when the pool was packed and we were forced to attend someone's pool party. Loud music blared all day. I finally said something to Aaron, who apologized and went out to speak to the "DJ" and ask him to turn the music down. That lasted about five minutes, until he left and the music went back up and a little louder. Finally, my husband called back as the music got louder, and it was addressed again.
My point is, a room should never have been put in this sub-optimal position. I can only imagine the number of people who, like myself, seethed at the unfairness of booking the most expensive room, only to be placed in the worst location in the hotel. That area should have been made into maintenance, housekeeping or storage.
The manager, Aaron, as I said before, was very kind and comped us a room for a future night's stay. This was kind, but I'm afraid I still think less of Drury for placing money over customer satisfaction. At the very least, those rooms should be specified as obstructed view, pool deck, so that people know, when they book, what they are getting into.

Great hotel, close to UT Dallas, but annoying check in policy by Drury
I have one major complaint about a new policy by Drury inns, were they make you pay extra for early check-in even if you are 30 minutes early than 3 o’clock check-in time. After a long day of travel, we were quite annoyed to find ourselves sitting in the lobby with another six or seven families waiting for the 3 o’clock check in time the poor front desk people had nothing to do with it, but they had no flexibility to make the change since if you’ve checked in before three the system will charge you an extra charge. The front desk person had nothing to do and then at 3 o’clock there were a whole bunch of people checking in which caused a bottleneck. I would think the Drury Inn should reconsider this policy, because it seems unreasonable. I understand if you’re coming in very very early but for 10 or 15 minutes it makes no sense, especially when it was clear that rooms were available and ready..
