Terrible Service - if you can call it that
This was never taken care of. I had to call multiple times to get someone on the phone (seems like they'd rather do anything than answer a call) after 5pm to find out what was going on. I was told they'd take care of getting the items to the room and I'd get a confirmation that things were taken care of. No real acknowledgement and no one followed up with me. I did hear from the guest that they eventually received the surprise. The lack of customer service from this hotel was unsatisfactory and offputting. I was trying to make someone feel special and they weren't interested in enhancing their guests' experience or following through with a request.
I could not have been more disappointed. I now know I cannot count on a high end hotel such as this to follow through with a simple - but extremely impactful - request. The hotel was barely full and I am at a loss as to why this wasn't priortized. The rooms may be nice but the service leaves much to be desired and at the end of the day, you may not remember the thread count, but you'll always remember how someone made you feel...

No longer a luxury hotel
Our room was fine - but as everyone knows they now charge a resort fee on top of parking which is crazy and you have no special accommodations in the room. Not even waters were waiting for us. And we heard multiple people complaining there was nowhere to get ice. Our room also had a smoke detector out of order hanging from the ceiling…
We went down to the pool the next day to find a pool that was cloudy and gross. The hot tub water was green. Judging by previous bad reviews here, this is a common problem they have done nothing to fix. I tried using the pool bathroom, and almost threw up from the sewage smell that was permeating the whole bathroom. No idea what is going on there.
We stayed for winterfest, and they have always had a wonderful fire and ice bar. Now they don’t even have that anymore. The fires weren’t even lit - no charm whatsoever. Everything that used to be magical about this place now just feels cheap. It’s so sad since this was such a wonderful place that held many memories for us, but I wanted to leave this review to hopefully deter others from being disappointed. They have some highly rated bed and breakfast places in Newport we’ll be looking into next time. Maybe someday ownership will change again and the place can be restored to its former glory.
