Matlaca is a beautiful little town. It feels so old Florida. Everything is in walking distance from these tiny homes which are so cute and so adorable. Everything was ready for us upon our arrival. We ate at the blue dog restaurant, which was one block away, walking distance, and also the perfect cup…. Perfect cup has the most amazing coffee and incredible crab Benedict…. Blue Dog has some incredible food. Everything from the best cooking shrimp I’ve ever had to fresh fish great service definitely coming back to all these places, including the tiny house.

It was a convenient location to restaurants, shops and pine island. We enjoyed our stay in the tine house and would stay again.

Good Enough For Us. With Some Shortcomings.
Stayed here for several days with my sister for a mid-winter getaway. We were in the lime green tiny house, Unit 5. With my arms spread wide, its width is about another foot & a half. So...really tiny! All 3 tiny houses on this property are for sale ($600,000). Its good points: it was small but it was fine for the 2 of us, especially since there are only 2 chairs @ the "dining table" (this was actually only a very small tabletop attached to the wall). There is parking for about 3-4 cars at the roadway entrance. Refrigerator & freezer are good sizes, as well as the microwave, but the conduction stove was not workable (even the instruction sheet for it was not helpful), nor was the key code to get into the unit working when we arrived. The decor of fish nets, shells, positive quotes, etc are fun. The bathroom is a good size, plenty of hot water, thick towels, good lighting, shower gel, etc mounted on the wall, there is a helpful nightlight for folks sleeping in the loft, ceilings for those on the main floor are very high but bump-your-head height for those sleeping in the loft. The outdoor patio overlooking a waterway, sunrises & sunsets are great, a barbecue grill (watch out for the water rats that jump out when you open the lid!), & there are two picnic tables out here (1 with with twinkling lights at night). We saw a guy in a trailer parked behind a fence next door utilizing (maybe stealing, maybe using with permission?) the property's electricity. The down sides: the road noise is profound. Because the nearby bridge to Pine Island was ruined in the hurricane, cars have to wait their turn to traverse the one lane road going either way & work trucks, backed up for about 3/4 of a mile in either direction, will wake you up starting @ 5:30 AM like an alarm clock & again in the evening. This unit is outfitted in only a basic manner: there is lighting in the loft but no lamp (the overhead lighting there is so bright it keeps everyone else awake.) There are no spices, condiments, sponges, few instructions on how to get things to work, the site manager took FOREVER to answer our texts & calls when the key code didn't work & again later, when we saw that the small, extra "bed" had no linens (it is a couch that opens to day bed size & its middle is hard because of its framework. I would know since I tried sleeping on it for 3 nights). The property is within walking distance of what is left of Matlacha post-hurricane (Ian, in Oct. 2022, Helene & Milton in 2024) ; a car will be helpful since there is so little commerce left here & you may want to venture to Pine Island or Fort Myers but there are about 3 restaurants within walking distance as well as a couple of rainbow-hued stores.

I really enjoyed this place along with the canal, and outdoor sitting areas. It is adorable! I chose to book here bc the listing said that a kayak was included. That is what I wanted to do daily. They didn't replace the kayaks after the hurricane, so the lisiting should be updated online. I understand the hurricanes really messed up the area, but there has been enough time to update the rental listing since then. There are places in town and around the area to rent kayaks from, but I am on a budget so renting a place that said a kayak was included was my way to save and have the convenience walking out the door and jumping into a kayak each day. I would have chosen a diff. place to rent had I known this detail, in advance to be able to cancel the reservation. All in all a nice place to stay :)

The villa was infested with cockroaches, they got into our food, it was noticeable that they didn't change the sheets on the beds.
