Our very comfortable and wonderful second home away from home
This apartment hotel or aparthotel was the last accommodation in our 10-day Hokkaido self-drive itinerary and we stayed two nights. We chose Minn Chitose because it was very near to the Avis car rental company (4 minutes’ drive), New Chitose Airport (10 minutes’ drive), Chitose Outlet Mall Rera (2 minutes’ drive) and of course Sapporo where we made day trips to and fro.
Getting to hotel & parking: we drove here from a hotel in Otaru using Google Map and Apple Map on the Apple Car Play. At the back of the aparthotel, there is a total of 74 free-of-charge unsheltered car park lots (24 for Block 1A, 23 for Block 1B, 27 for Block 1C). I parked the car closest to the back door of Block 1A. Next to the car park is a piece of grassland where I saw and photographed many lovely flowers. I do not see any bus plying along the road next to the aparthotel. For those taking the train, it is a 12-minute walk from the JR Minami Chitose Station (H14) – walk along highway 1149 until you reach a cross road traffic light junction, then turn left and Minn Chitose is just across the road.
Check in: unlike most hotels, Minn Chitose has only electronic check in and check out and no reception for hotel guests. We found the check in was not so straightforward – scanning QR code and entering my email and itinerary number of one booking website did not work. Hence I chose “other option” and entered my details when it came to a page where there was a “Reload”, I pressed ‘Front Desk” and a lady (in an off-site office) appeared onscreen who then verified the details. I got the room number for Block 1A and the security code for the room.
Apartment hotel room: We keyed in the security code to enter the “Family Apartment” room having a floor area of 45 square meters. Upon entering, a short corridor greeted us; walking along the corridor led us to a storage room (storing umbrellas, shoe rack, iron, ironing board, clothes hangers) followed by a toilet with just a Japanese bidet cistern then a fire extinguisher and finally the apartment room. We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and hugeness of the apartment. The entire room, except the bathroom, is covered with parquet flooring and it comes with the following:
(1) Two queen bed mattresses and a single bed mattress (not futons) placed on a raised wooden platform, so we had to be careful not to trip over the “step”
(2) Open wardrobe with metal railings and clothe hangers next to the wall and above one of the bed mattresses
(3) Kitchen with a washing sink, medium refrigerator, microwave oven, kettle, rice cooker, electric/induction cooking stove with hood, utensils, saucepans, plates, bowls. There was no cooking oil.
(4) Two waste bins at the kitchen – burnt waste and recycled waste. The aparthotel practises sustainability.
(5) Vacuum cleaner next to the waste bins
(6) Four chairs and a nice wood carved wooden dining table next to the kitchen
(7) Living room with a black sofa set (one double sofa and two single sofas) and a table
(8) Balcony (where we dry our clothes on the rack)
(9) Washing machine with a bottle of concentrated liquid detergent. As the instructions are in Japanese, it may be helpful to have a phone that has translation app (e.g. iPhone)
(10) Bathroom with Japanese bath tub, shampoo and body wash liquid but no dental kits; hairdryer was located beneath the sink next to washing machine
We really liked the following about the aparthotel room:
(1) The modern and stylish décor and lighting
(2) The beds were comfortable such that we had a good night sleep
(3) Clean and well-maintained
(4) The air-con is quiet and powerful enough to cool the huge room
(5) Cooking our own (healthy) meals using mainly the microwave oven and rice cooker
(6) Doing our own laundry and hanging the clothes on the rack at the balcony to dry
(7) Complementary wi-fi with fast connection speed
(8) Energy saving through the motion sensing lighting
The only dislikes that we had were that firstly the toilet was next to the room entrance which meant that we had to walk all the way to the bathroom to wash our hands and secondly, we heard (but not disturbed) the occasional rumbling noise of airplanes during the day (which we and most guests are out of the aparthotel sightseeing anyway).
The welcoming dark grey carpet to every block mentions “Minn your second home”. Indeed, this was so true for us – we did so many things (cooking, laundry, relax on the sofa etc) like we did back home – that this aparthotel room has been our second home away from home even though it was for three days and two nights. We will definitely stay here again the next time we come to Hokkaido. I recommend this 3-star Minn Chitose if, like my family and I, you want to drive to Sapporo for sightseeing but yet want to be very near New Chitose Airport on the last day for departure and at the same time want to experience living in a comfortable yet reasonable value for money apartment hotel.

Clean, modern, comfortable. Super close to the airport, so very convenient, that way. Really not that far of a drive from Sapporo City.
The only thing I could recommend would be that the hotel have a shuttle from the airport. It was a 20 minute walk in a snowstorm for us to get to the hotel from the train station.

Excellent stay here at this property, Soba restaurant across the road and well within walking distance of my place of work. Very happy overall with the hotel.

We arrived at the property at 1pm from a long bus ride from Hokkaido. It was shown that the property was 11 minutes walk from the train station but with baggage and snow on the roads, it wasn't a pleasant walk. They also failed to disclose that the property had 3 buildings so we were quite lost. It was also not disclosed that the property utilizes self check in with no step by step instructions at the property. To make things worse, since we came in early for check in time, they do not provide storage areas for luggage. We had to walk back to the station to store luggage and the station only had limited slots for luggage. When we arrived back in the evening to check in after a tiring day of touring the city, it took quite some time to check in with their virtual assistant. I don't recommend staying in this property as they do not provide any services for their guests.

Near Chitose airport, easy to take taxi from airport, cost is around 2000yen. Good place to stay,
